Types of data loss
- Logical failure – This is where the hard drive is physically functional but the data cannot be accessed. Logical failure includes corrupt engineering semi-conductors, (chips), firmware failure, lost partition, damaged MFT, (Master File Table),deleted data, re-install and formatting.
- Mechanical failure - Common hard drive failures include head crash, head failure, bearing seizure, motor failure and blown semi-conductors,(chips) on the PCB.
